Abundance

What does abundance mean to you? I think most people agree that abundance is about experiencing plentifulness in one way or another. When the fridge is full, we have an abundance of food. When trees have bloomed, we see an abundance of greenery and flowers. When our business grows, we experience an abundance of customers, sales, and other good things. We’re abundant when we notice the plentifulness around us, within us and within others.

But how is this plentifulness created?

Think about nature for a second. The flowers, the vegetables, the fruit. How is all the plentifulness in nature created and where does it come from?  It doesn’t fall from the sky, does it?

Think of a ripe, juicy tomato. When you cut it in half, you’ll notice it has many seeds inside. If you take all these seeds and plant them in soil, you won’t get just one tomato. You will get plenty of plants, each with plenty of tomatoes. From one fruit, you can create dozens of others. One fruit, should you choose to plant its seeds, creates many different fruits, for years to come.

Therefore, if you think about it, the abundance we see around us in nature is created because one little thing multiplies into many things. That’s how abundance works in our lives as well.

Abundance, at its core, is about multiplication. It’s about a type of plentifulness that’s alive, active, and growing. Abundance is about plentifulness that plentifies itself. It’s about growth, flow, circulation, movement.

We can learn from nature. Abundance is not about getting something that we want, but about developing the habit, mindset, and the confidence that we can take something and multiply it into something more. That we are the conscious creators of the plentifulness that fills our life.

If nobody plants the seeds in the soil, we would miss on the abundance of fruit that we could enjoy in our lives. Yes, there is abundance all around us, and yes, abundance exists with or without us, humans. There will always be an abundance of sunrises, raindrops, and snowflakes regardless of what we humans do. However, there will also always be an abundance that only we can create and that wouldn’t exist if we don’t create it.

There are people who, after winning the lottery, fall depressed, lonely, and in love with the wine bottle. Strangely, they were happier before they got the money. Sometimes people feel more abundant before they had the money than they feel after they get the money. After the euphoria of winning winds down, some people start feeling lack instead of plentifulness. Then, they learn that abundance is not about getting something, but about living with the belief that you’re able to create and experience plentifulness.

If we take one thing and multiply it into many things, we create abundance. If we have one dollar and we keep mulling over how to not to lose it, we’re not creating abundance. We’re creating stagnation and scarcity. But if we take that one dollar and we use it in such a way that it multiplies and it benefits other human beings, we’re creating abundance.

When you circulate resources, when you allow them to flow, to move, and to benefit other people, you’re generating abundance. Not just for yourself, but also for humanity at large. But if you keep all your resources to yourself and if you feel scared about losing them or having someone steal them from you, you’re creating scarcity.

You can take this idea of multiplication or growth and apply it to everything in life, even to the simple moments of life.

Abundance is not just about money. It’s about a mindset. You can take a simple moment and transform it into a long-lasting, happy memory, and in this way, you’re creating abundance. When you walk by a beautiful flower, you can create abundance when you spend a moment to smell it and feel its beauty. When you do so, you take something that already exists and you amplify it into something bigger. Through your action of using that simple moment, you create a wave of joy that didn’t exist before.

You are the bringer of abundance.
